The OP is in Canada where 2.5I models have paddle shifters. 2. Paddle shifters still place the transmission in a set gear ratio, mimicking real gears. They are not just for looks. They function well for engine braking and for downshifting prior to a pass.Out of the 3, the 98 Outback made in the USA was probably the best. The paint in particular was MUCH better and more durable than the paint on the made in Japan Impreza and Forester. The Forester also had to be returned to the dealer once for a mis-aligned glove box, and at about the 500 mile mark an oxygen sensor died in the Impreza.Yes, fix exhaust leaks before replacing the other O2 sensor.
