Difference between glock 30 and 30s.
According to Glock the 30S was designed for the LAPD's SIS and my understanding is they use 230 grain +P HST's in all their 45s. It would make sense to me to run the same ammo. Plus I like Federal HST ammo it is proven in testing and on the street. My current avatar is the logo for my group Young Guns of Michigan.
I have been looking to add a Glock 45 to my stable of Glocks. I am having a very hard time deciding between the 30 and the 30S. I know the 30 is a sweet shooter in a small package, but it is fairly hefty. All that heft does absorb recoil though. The 30s is thinner in the slide and obviously a lighter gun. If I go with the 30S I'll be using the 9 round mags so size/weight is close enough to be of little concern. I was pretty set on the 30S. The three main factors that have me considering another 26 are lower recoil, cheaper ammo and availability of factory glock threaded barrels rather than aftermarket only for the 30S.

Remember to take into consideration that the Gen 3 G30 only comes with 2 mags, where the Gen 4 will have 3 mags. That should negate about $30 of price the difference between the two. The first Glock I ever purchased was a Gen 3 G30 and it was great. I sold that gun a while back and picked up a Gen 4 G30 and the magic is still there!

The 30S has quite a bit more recoil than a 30 model, and a supurb broken in glock trigger. But my 30S is still quite accurate. Have not shot the fpf 30S to compare if the one I've shot is a fluke.

The 30S conceal real nice and especially with the 9 round magazine. I've placed both IWB and the 30S was noticeably lighter and the 30 was noticeably thicker. Couldn't believe 4 oz and a smudge thicker could be noticed. At the range for me was a totally different experience. I shot both side by side and felt better control with the 30.
